What if you need to Give Up your Dog to a pound, rescue or shelter?

There are many things that you can avoid or prevent to make sure your family doesn’t ever have to take your dog to a pound, shelter, or rescue.

If you are moving away, and can’t take your animal with you, ask a Parent to find a pet support group in your area.  There are many online support groups in Yahoo that help people find new homes for their dogs.

Ask a Parent to call your local shelters to help you find a dog rescue.  A lot of times there are people waiting to foster or adopt a dog for you.

You can also call your veterinarian, and ask if you can post a sign at their office.  Sometimes veterinarians and dog groomers know other people that are looking for another dog.

If you have to bring your dog to a shelter or a pound, be sure to have a Parent ask what their “owner-surrendered” rules are.   Find out how long your dog will be available for adoption.  Your Parent might also research what the laws are in your area.

It’s not easy to find a new home for an older dog, so take your time, and do not wait for the last minute to find a new home for your dog.  If you  know you are moving, and you know you can’t take your dog with you, start looking right away because it might take months before you can find a new home for your dog.

If you think your Parent needs help, ask your parent to visit my grownup website at www.TheDogLiberator.com.  There, they will find some rescue groups and support groups that might be able to help you.

Just remember, shelters, pounds, and rescues all have different rules and have to follow different laws, so be sure your Parent asks all of the right questions before giving anyone your dog!

ONLINE INTERNET ADVERTISING

Never give someone your dog, who is going to give it to someone else for you.  Demand that you meet the person that you want to give your dog to.

GIVING YOUR DOG AWAY

TO A STRANGER

Try not to advertise your dog on internet sites.  If you have to, please ask a Parent, before giving your dog away to a stranger, that your Parent check for references.  Your Parent should call the Stranger’s Veterinarian, the Stranger’s Landlord (where he lives), call where the Stranger works, and any other references (people that can stick up for him or her) before giving your dog away.

Dogs that Are Adopted and What you Should Know

There are millions of wonderful people out there that love dogs, and they will love your dog.  You will feel bad about leaving your dog behind, but if you have found a wonderful new home for your dog, you should be happy too, that he or she will be cared for, be happy, and live a long wonderful life.

I help adopt and rescue dogs almost every day.  I know the owners are sad, but I see how happy the new owners are when they finally get their new dog!

Rescues and shelters sometimes are full, and might not be able to take your dog right away.  Please ask a Parent to put your dog on a waiting list.  They will call you when there’s an opening!

Here are just a few pictures that I have of people who have

Adopted Dogs that were Given Away by their Previous Owners.

I hope you can see how happy there are!
